Love Pursues: Your Reminder That Your Worth Protecting by Savannah

Friday nights were almost “on repeat” at this point: eat dinner with friends, get ready at someone’s house, then go out either downtown or at Dallas Bull, the line dancing stop in town.

But this night was different. A new guy came with our friend group. He was incredibly handsome, yes –but there was something more. He had the kindest eyes, and I could tell that he was confident in himself.

Now let’s rewind a bit…

I had dated the man I had thought I would marry for two years. It was the classic heartbreak-I was absolutely blindsided by the breakup and swore up and down that I would never love again.

I really leaned into my single years – travel, dive into your identity, take the ambitious job, etc. And I do recommend that. What I don’t recommend is the attitude I had towards men.

Yes, one man hurt me. But I allowed that hurt to make me more guarded than I should have been.If the guy I went on a date with wasn’t absolutely perfect in every way (nobody is!), I wouldn’t keep going out with him.

Crazy that I’d actually met him two days before…

Despite my future husband’s attempts to spend more time with me, I kept rejecting him because of my “busy schedule.” Eventually, a few weekends later, we all hung out at the beach and began talking about deeper things.

One of the first things I noticed when actually talking with him and spending time with him was his natural virtues – prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance. He possessed them in a way I hadn’t seen in any man besides my dad. And it was incredibly attractive.

So when, a week later at a friend’s birthday party, he asked me on a date to a hockey game, I said yes.

And that was the start of our love story… two kids under two later, I can tell you that his natural virtues are what make it possible to raise little ones in a strong, balanced home.

My Love Advice: Don’t rule out finding a virtuous man at a party, on a vacation, or even on a zoom meeting. The more you put yourself out there, the more friends and community you make, the more likely you are to find the love of your life. Never settle for anything less than a...
